Set History & Release Context

Mega Brave is the Japanese launch expansion of the Mega Evolution Series, released on August 1, 2025 as a paired set with Mega Symphonia. It marks the formal return of Mega Evolution to the Pokemon TCG after the mechanic exited Standard with the close of the XY era in late 2017 (Bulbapedia accessed 2026-05-09).

The set introduces Mega Evolution Pokemon ex cards: 3-prize attackers stamped with a distinct black-and-yellow ex symbol that distinguishes them from standard SV-era Pokemon ex. Mega Brave skews toward Grass, Fighting and Darkness coverage, deliberately omitting Lightning and Dragon types so its sister set Mega Symphonia can carry that share of the type chart.

The expansion debuted the MUR (Mega Ultra Rare) rarity, a gold-etched secret-rare treatment reserved for Mega Evolution ex cards, plus the first Full Art Super Rare prints for Item, Pokemon Tool and Stadium Trainer cards. Boosters are 5 cards each, with 30 packs per box.

Top Chase Cards Explained

Mega Lucario ex is the headline chase, appearing as RR (card 29), SR and SAR variants, and capped by the MUR gold-etched secret rare at card 92. Other Mega Evolution ex chases include Mega Venusaur ex, Mega Camerupt ex, Mega Absol ex and Mega Mawile ex, each printed at RR with full-art and special-art parallels deeper in the set list (Bulbapedia accessed 2026-05-09).

Full Art Super Rare Trainer prints are a secondary chase tier: this is the first time Item, Tool and Stadium cards have received full-art treatment in the TCG, which thickens the secret-rare slot beyond Pokemon-ex artwork alone.

Investment Analysis

Mega Brave is a launch-set with strong nostalgia leverage: it reintroduces a mechanic that has been out of Standard for nearly a decade while branding it under the active Scarlet & Violet card frame, which historically drives both player and collector demand simultaneously. The new MUR rarity is a structural scarcity layer printed only on Mega ex cards, which concentrates chase demand on a small subset of the print run. Risk: it is also the debut of the series, so subsequent Mega sets will dilute the novelty premium over time.
